This 1920s villa in Wadestown had a tired bathroom that looked out of place with the rest of the home. A complete renovation resulted in a modern sanctuary, much to the delight of the home’s owner.

A Tired Bathroom needs Tackling

Nicola loved her character home in the sought-after Wellington suburb of Wadestown, but the bathroom in this four-bedroom villa needed a complete overhaul. Mismatched and dated colours made the space feel cluttered, while ageing fixtures, tiling, and lights required constant maintenance. The bathroom was a jumble of styles and fittings that did nothing to create the enjoyable relaxing space that Nicola wanted.
Ready to tackle her beleaguered bathroom, Nicola contacted local SKYLINE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS LTD Consultant Lia Boersma for help and advice. During an initial free consultation, Lia explained the SKYLINE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS LTD process to Nicola, and together the pair began to plan a dream bathroom makeover.

Simple and Stress-free

Nicola was immediately drawn to how straightforward the SKYLINE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS LTD process was. Everything from the initial design to the project management, ordering of fittings to the scheduling of tradespeople would be taken care of. Lia would be her single point of contact throughout the entire project, which removed all Nicola’s apprehension about undertaking such a significant renovation.
Communication is critical during any home renovation, and poor communication can cause major challenges and problems to a project. For this reason, the SKYLINE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS LTD process has communication at its core. Nicola was regularly kept up to date on the progress of her bathroom renovation by Lia; she could also see everything at a glance in the online customer portal, an added benefit of the SKYLINE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS LTD process.

Consultation and Planning

After meeting with Nicola to understand her vision for the bathroom and to determine a concept and budget, Lia worked with project manager Sashti Vasu to deliver a detailed design and costings estimate for the bathroom makeover. Lia and Sashti were able to include all of the elements that Nicola wanted, including tiling and a feature vanity, for an estimated $60,00 - a budget Nicola was happy with. She was also happy with the timeline - an estimated five weeks.
Because SKYLINE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS LTD presents a detailed plan and a pre-build estimate that is agreed on before any work is undertaken, customers can relax knowing they won’t be stung with any sudden surprises.
Covid-supply issues caused delays in the project and challenges for getting Nicola’s chosen vanity. But to ensure Nicola had a working bathroom in the home, Lia and Sashti organised for a temporary vanity and fittings to be installed. These challenges also contributed to an additional $5,000 cost for the project, but Lia’s communication and transparency meant Nicola was happy to approve the difference.

A Total Transformation

Nicola’s bathroom was totally transformed by Lia and her network of skilled tradespeople and professionals, including a builder, painter, plumber, electrician, and tiler. Clashing colours gave way to bright neutrals, while the mismatched fittings were replaced with sleek modern pieces to create a space that is a joy to inhabit.
The vessel top vanity offers contemporary elegance and is a design highlight. The subtly curved vessel sink was offset on top of the vanity, creating a point of interest in the bathroom. Wall-mounted tapware and a modern rimless mirror with backlighting complete the stylish feature.
The new shower glass has been framed in classic black to match the laddered towel rail and tapware, contrasting with the crisp white walls and vanity. Slate-coloured flooring tiles, brought up the wall as a splashback, achieve a seamless look with the rest of the space.
Lia and Sashti looked for opportunities to retain some of the villa’s character features in a way that complemented Nicola’s new, modern bathroom. The original landscape window framed in wood adds warmth and depth to the space.

Sophistication and Style

Nicola’s bathroom is now a haven, not a headache. Classic colour combinations deliver a fresh feel, while the vanity adds modern sophistication and style. Lia, too, is thrilled with the outcome of this stunning makeover for her client.
